First of all, thanks for initiating the blog which is very helpful to us.
I have a question with regards to the upcoming mini test for mathematics. Pertaining to addition and subtraction within 20, is it mandatory to draw the number bonds in order to derive the answer or students will not be penalized for writing just the answer.
For example, 12-7= 5. Can students just answer 5? Or draw number bonds by breaking up 12 to become 10 and 2, then answer to write as 3+2=5.
Thank you for your encouragement. The blog is a new platform to me too.
The children are only required to find the final answer which is 5. If there is working required, 12-7=5 will suffice. There is no need to do the number bonds method. The number bonds method is useful for them to understand the part-part-whole concept.
